15th April 2010

This vintage top (no label) is so adorable. The print is tiny little top hats which unless you get up close you don't realise. I had several compliments at work about my trousers but not a single mention about the top. I guess it's like a nice little fashion secret for yourself. I have a similar thing with certain bag linings or even a couple of coat labels! My blue Luella Bag has bright orange lining which when I open it I always get a little thrill.

11th April 2010

It's Sunday and I'm at a vintage fair at the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey with my boyfriend, my mum, my brother, my dad and my step mum. An unexpected and very rare joint family day out. It was lovely seeing my mum and step mum being shopping buddies. As Bunny's muse he insisted on placing me in front of this yellow barrier to fun effect. Lovely clash with the pink of my Vanessa Bruno pants. I adore these trousers - they feel as light as a feather to wear.
I very nearly purchased this Bob Mackie silk jacket but was not 100% sure about it. Bob Mackie is the costume designer for all of Cher's stage outfits (pretty wild imagination then). I love the bright colours and graphic print but it is rather loud. I imagine it looking quite cool over something more low key than hot pink trousers or even clashing with a floral summer dress on a warmer day. Mmmmhhh will have to give it a bit more thought and not be seduced by idea of somehow being associated with Cher simply on basis of wearing this

9th April 2010

Yes, I bought the socks in white too. I feel a bit like a page boy from the waist down
I'm obsessed with purple eyeshadow at the moment (YSL) which is quite a departure for me. I love make-up and wear it daily but I definitely fall into the natural look category with addition of overly rosey cheeks. But since last year I've been experimenting more with eyeliner and this has now evolved into a daily look for me........

It gets smokier and more dramatic hues depending on whether it's work or play but I'm glad to have found an eyemakeup style that I like - it's only taken me 15 years or so. Shock horror at fine lines around eyes though!

8th April 2010

The sun beaming in is making me go weak at the knees. I wore this dress outside without (yes without) a jacket. Amazing!
Maxi dresses are a staple in my wardrobe and this simple jersey one is perfect for the office and for not really Summer yet but having a nice Spring day type weather. Not too dressy but feels elegant. I've added a necklace that several people have commented - wow that's horrible but it works. I know what they mean and is perhaps why it was in the bargain bin at Oasis.

6th April 2010

How vain am I? Refusing to show my face because it looks dead on this day. So let's focus on the highlight of the outfit - my shoes and socks. These lace trimmed socks from Urban Outfitter's are super soft and super cute. I'm not sure I would do the exposed leg / sock / heel look but I felt it was acceptable with a pair of trousers. I like it on the like of Chloe Sevigny but I think you need pin legs to really pull off the exposed leg and sock look. We will see - might give it a whirl after a few drinks come Summer. The shoes are killer to walk in despite the lowish heel but they are gorgeous and take me back to my childhood when I was addicted to clogs. I really doubt if they were fashionable at the time but nice to see them and wooden heels having a fashion rebirth. These brown leather ones are Swedish Hasbeens http://www.swedishhasbeens.com/

5th April 2010

Summer has started to feel within reach. All very exciting especially fashion wise. Whatever the season I always look forward to the next as it starts to approach for this reason. Here I am in a Primark dress which cost £7. I try and limit any Primark purchases because of a big nagging feeling that if something only costs £7 then how much did the person that made the dress get paid? Feels wrong on that note to say 'oh but it's such a pretty pattern and great to throw on under a denim jacket' so I won't.

3rd April 2010

Tonight was Lowlife and the theme was White & Silver. I found the amazing dress on the left on ebay but when it arrived it was actually cream. I'm really into maxi dresses at the moment and had my heart set of a floor length romantic style dress that had a prim and proper feel to it. Definitely trying to play with the idea that the less you show the actual more wild you can behave. Had the colour been right this would have been perfect and it fitted like a glove. Being strict with myself meant that I even returned it as in reality I'm not sure when I would ever wear it.

The second outfit was a hash of whatever I could lay my hands on in said colours. 'you're not wearing a bra dolly' commented bunny, slightly shocked. Could I go out bra less and sheer topped? I think I'm willing to try it. I'm certainly not shocked by the subtle sight of a breast at an appropriate occasion. It does not even seem provocative but I guess to some people it might seem that way. The sheer shirt was a vintage find and it's beautiful - really delicate with a little tie neck and slightly cropped sleeves.

As it happens I wore Hot Pink Vanessa Bruno Trousers and a black sheer lace vest. I guess rules are made for breaking and I felt fabulous!

1st April 2010

I'm putting this photo in as a sort of holding slide as I actually changed outfits before going out that night.

It's Thursday 1st April post work - Easter Bank Holiday started here. We were headed out to Horse Meat Disco & Disco Bloodbath carpark party. Still absolutely shattered but I'd been looking forward to it for so long bailing was not an option. I wore this white fake fur coat and had so many compliments. People were so sweet and wherever I went I was stroked! Could have been annoying but was actually very comforting. The coat is from top shop and I've had a it a few years now - a fail safe party coat that has a hook at the neck so it means you can wear in cape style. Very handy when you are at a party in a car park.

Details on the dress I actually wore to follow once I have a pic - it's quite possibly the most amazing dress I have owned in a long time (suspense!)

So finally I unearthed a photo of the dress I wore. Accessorised with my lovely friend Karina. The dress is sheer but because of the print your modesty can remain and has beautiful lace neck detail. It's topshop and I had hunted for one for ages after seeing Natalie Imbruglia (spell check?) wearing one in a magazine. Found it when I stopped looking hanging solo on a rail. A size too big but beacuase of the fabric I don't think it matters too much.

26th March 2010

I'm absolutely shattered in this photo. Failure to post any photos has largely been due to manic work schedule combined with a week of illness (no time off though). So I'm trying to make amends, starting with a photo not in my usual 'studio' but shows an easy to wear dress that works for me when tired but still want to look nice. I was going to a filiming of the Justin lee Collins chat show 'Good Times' at the Rivoli Ballroom. It was rubbish and to my embarassment my boyfiend was roped into some warm up stuff and then as aresult I was. Cringe.
It's grey jersey but the panels on the side are black lace. I asked myself - is this slightly risque for work? After all you get a hint of the exposed waist line trough the lace. Told myself it's hardly a crop top so I'm sure it was acceptable. Lace is everywhere these days and it's such a beautiful fabric. I love the romance of it. I have a beautiful 1920's lace table cloth that my boyfriend winces at when I pull out but my heart does a little skip when I walk into the dining room and see it on the table with a vase full of fresh flowers in the centre and the sunlight puring through the garden doors. I'm living in my own Laura Ashley advert for a split second.
Anyway back to the outfit. Sheer tights. These are having a fashion resurrection and I can honestly say I've surprised myself by embracing them. I can actually recall saying to myself I will never ever wear sheer tights as long as I live. Nice how things change.
